stage vehicle. Miss Talmndge portrays the role of Jacqueline Hoggs, the part played in the stage version of -Miss Eagles. JacquV-dine Boggs is the mother!' ss daughter of “the American Hog King.” She has been reared and educated in a French Convent, and on a visit to England she meets Donald Munneyby, the oldest son ot an impoverished English aristocratic [family. Donald flirts with her. and “the wonderful thing” happens. She falls in love with hint. A vital need for money makes Donald slilfle his better feelings and take advantage of her love by marrying her. Duly aitet several months, during which time Donald learns to love her sincerely, she Loans j of his motive and leaves him. Ihe story comes to a happy ending, very I el> verly worked out. EMERY BROS. CIRCUS. Emery’s Circus which arrived m Hokitika yesterday afternoon from the north, though it came with very little noise and pomp, had apparently been veil heralded, because when tlie; Circus opened on Cass Square in the evening they were rewarded with an audience that found it difficult to find standing room, the moderate sized tent being crammed full in every part. The performance was a capital one. and was thoroughly enjoyed. There are louttrick ponies, two white and two mown and the remarktible manner in winch thev carried out their parts was very attractive. The potty buokjumper soon settled all wonldho riders, while ■■Starlight” mystified the audience with his almost human intelligence. There was a bevy oi clever dogs pci - forming, while the ladies on the trapeze and wire rope gave very attractive performance.-. Iwo comedy violinist' supplied some excellent comedy and clever juggling .while the clown and dutuniv tilled in the Ifoth lor the youngsters’ benefit.
