MAORI ELECTION PETITION. ALLEGED IRREGCLARTTiES. WELLINGTON, dan. 13. Kemapu I learehuka has petitioned against Dr Pomaro’.s return alleging bribery in various forms. One charge is of giving COT In natives to secure the candidate's return. Others are the gift of a bottle, of beer, treating electors by providing drink at Taurauga. and -offering to secure work on railways. It is also alleged that threats were used to exclude beneficiaries under Taranaki leases, unless, they voted for Roma re. Other promises to procure relief, offers of money, threats and similar procedure are alleged. Because of these matters the petitioner claims Dr Pomare is incapacitated from serving in the present Parliament end i horns the election he voided. Petitioner further alleged there occurred irreg ul unties, improprieties, and failures to comply with the Legislature Act as to the taking of the poll. It. is alleged associates to deputy returning officers in many eases were active partisans of Dr Pomare and they did not act impartially, blit interfered with the electors in the booths and canvassed for votes for Dr Pomare, Tn some I'oolhs the name of the candidate writh'n on the voting paper was not that of the candidate for whom the elector desired to vote; that . intoxicating liquor was supplied to .Maoris on election day; that at Pnkekohe on election day. free food and drink was supplied to electors presumed to he voting for Hr Pomare and that many eases of double voting occurred.
