SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL MEETING. The Westland Trotting Club 'was favoured witli a very line day yesterday, alter a night of considerable rain, when the annual meeting look place on Hokitika racecourse. The conditions were very pleasant, bright sunshine with a cool breeze, but the course was on the heavy side as it result of recent rain, though the winner of the Westland Cup put up a. course record for two miles of <lmin. 42spcs.. improving the time put up at Grcymouth on Tuesday, when lit' won the Greyinouth Cup in -(.ld 2-5, and this in spite of the somewhat heavy condition of the track. It is noteworthy that Avenue has also-put tip something of a record by winning the principal event at Westport, Greymouth, and Westland Clubs’ meetings. There was an excellent attendance, the gate receipts showing a small improvement on that of last year, though there did not appear to he as many of the fair sex as usual present. Si>cculation was very satisfactory, Mr 11. Lynch and his assistants handling the sum of €8.319 for the day, as against £3,326 last year, an increase of £23. The events were run off very promptly, and there was some excellent trotting, a fme performance being put up liv Avenue in the principal event over 2 miles. The officers of the Club were all in attendance and attentive to their duties, and the afternoon’s proceedings passed oil' very pleasantly and smoothly. Ihe Town Band was present and played a pleasing programme, while the booths appeared to he doing a satisfactory business. Altogether the meeting proved very successful, and enjoyable. Galindo Rose early took charge, and lasted long enough to win by two lengths, with the fast finishing scratch horse. T.ord f.ytton, a neck away, third. The veteran rider-owner of the winner (Ate Jas Marshall) was accorded an ovation on returning to the bird-cage. Time 3.58 2-5. Tote £752. At the instance of the Stipendiary Steward. McGilligan, the rider of Lord Lyttoii was called before the .Tudieial Committee, and after enquiry was fined £2 for crossing Hush King when passing in front of the stand the first time round. Appleshaw led the way from SilvercUa, with Norwood third anil the scratch horse making ground rapidly. In the last round the scratch horse had got to the leaders, and, coming up the straight, took the lead ami won a line race by a length in good time, with Wild Bird five lengths away third. Time 112, a record for the course, and a remarkably fine performance in view of the somewhat heavy state of the track. Tote £1133. L.R. led the way till he mixed his gait, and Andominion took charge. Fairton who came very fast was in charge at a mile, hut Audominion hung on, and L.R. coming again, a fine race saw Audominion beat the tiring Fairton by 1) lengths, with L. R. two lengths away .third, and Rose Tracey fourth. Time 5.9. Tote £1335. AVIATION HANDICAP.
