"‘‘lking party who visited the Fran/, Josef Glacier during the holidays returned to Christchurch last evening after eleven days of hal'd walking, plain fare and splendid comradeship. Most of all j ihev were greatly impressed by the | wonderful scenery which the glacier provide*. The whole of the arrangements for camping worked out satisfactorily, thanks t‘> the kindness of people on the West Coast. The party had the use of halls at Ross. Mari Hari. Matninui. Wailin and Hokitika. Dr Teiclielmanii made a special trip to the glacier to climb with the visitors, and on the return through Hokitika entertained the part-, at his home tor the purpose ■of showing and explaining lantern slides of places which had been visited. \r, John Min-rap a< i-d ;• tonring captain and all meiiibr&fr- Jiarcil in the duties which arc rei|iiisite lor such an unde taking. The officials received the greatest of assistance from Mr I). -T. Evnns. president of the Westland Progress f.cague. Mr William Jeffries, chairman oi the Westland County Council. Messrs W. J. Butler. \. W. Peebles. O-mers. May. Stuart and Chapman (Hokitika and Ross), Bramicli and Adamson (Hari Hard, llios. Nolan and FM'lo-fvld. O’Neill Brothers and Maurice Patrick (W.-tuv'D. Al- - mi. R. Williams and Weeilix (Waiho). Many of the residents along t.!- 1 ■ wav also provided mills and fruit. The tour was a great success and those who took- part state that, it excelled all others that have taken place in former years. The second V-M.C.A. walking party which spent the holidays at Riiller Cage, aBo returned to Christchurch last night. The members of this party also are enthusiastic concerning West Coast scenery and hospitality. They had excellent weather on the whole and saw much of the scenery in the gorge. The kindly co-operation of Air and Mrs Renting and other residents of Tnnngaliiia Junction was much appreciated, as also was the groat assistance rendered by Mr I'. Mori, honorary secretary of the Roefton Progress League.
