Canterbury, commenced to-day at Lancaster Park in sunny weather with a fair attendance. The piny was not inspiring, and it took Canterbury all the afternoon to run up 232 for seven wickets. The weather prospects arc good for the first test match, which begins at the Basin Reserve to-morrow at 11 ami. and continues on -Monday and Tuesday. All the members of the New Zealand team are in Wellington, with the exception of Rountree, who is being replaced by AY. •!. Condliffc. of Hutt. Afuch disappointment is expressed ovor tlic change, in view of Rountree's brilliant display in the Plunkct Shield match. Both teams have been indulging in practice. The Af.C.C. team were yesterday the guests of Air Tan Duncan of AVaikanne. The English team will not he picked till the morning of the match, hut it is understood the professionals are playing.
