FIGHT WITH LEOPARD. NAIROBI, Kenya Colony, Nov. 1 A thrilling account of a life and death struggle between a European settler and a leopard is reported from the Nveri district of Kenya Colony. Mr Jailies Ilattray, an experienced hunter, went out to secure a zebra. He was successful, but on reaching his trophy he found a leopard in possesion of the carcass. Mr Rattray was immediately attacked by the leopard, and although he fired three shots the beast charged with its speed unimpaired. lie caught hold of the leopard by the throat and attempted to strangle it, but without success. Although a strong man, his strength was insufficient to stand the strain of the prolonged struggle, and he had to release his bold. To his surprise the leopard did not complete the apparently unequal struggle, but dropped to the ground and slunk into the long grass. Mr Rattray sent natives for help. When a rescue party arrived it was attacked by the leopard, but the animals career was soon ended by six shots. Air Rattray, who was very severely mauled, is improving rapidly. He is well known in Kenya on account of his experiments with zebras'for transport purposes, lie has a team of eight zebras working on his farm. Ho is a keen naturalist and has a strange influence over animals.
