During the past week in Wellington, the average wage for all employed was Cl 2s 7d for 31.8 hours work. Jessie ArcDeod a married women, was committed for trial on a charge of making a false declaration touching the destruction by fire of goods at her residence. MURDER CASE. WELLINGTON. December 20. Charged with the murder of Hcrhoit Henry Knight, at Jolinsonville, on October 4, 1922, a yen;' Maori, named John Tulii, appeared before Mr E. Page at the Magistrate's Court to-day. He was further remanded until Thursday. The police stated that the case would probably be opened on the 10th. January. TRAIN HITS GIG.
FARMER'S WIFE KILLED. LEVIN. Doc. 19. A shocking fatality occurred at the railway crossing just, south of Levin this afternoon. The Auckland express, north bound crashed into a gig, the occupants of which were Mrs Nnrby, wife of A. Nnrby, 1 farmer, of Tinarua. road, and her two daughters. Mrs Xwrby was killed and the daughters were seriously injured. The horse was killed and the vehicle completely wrecked. At the scene the road rims parallel with the railway for some- distance, and then turns across the line. An onlooker states that the occupants of (lie trai> appeared to nc watching a train about to start from the Levin yards and to he oblivious of the approach of the express.
