Though it is generally known that Parliament is to meet early ill the New Year, the Prime Minister has not yet announced tho date on which he intends to call the House together. A Gazette Extraordinary issued today convokes Parliament lor January loth., hut an inquiry at the Prime Minister’s Office elicited the statement that this was in pursuance of a. formality, and it was not to he taken as an indication of when the House would meet.

THE OAMARU SEAT. WELLINGTON. Dee 20. Up to this evening, there is no change in the political position, hut the result of the Oamaru recount is being awaited with a good deal of interest, as the seat has appeared to he in iho balance from election night onward. Mr ■MacPhorsonks margin is stated to be a little over twenty votes. It is stated there is still a possibility of a change in the figures. The final result is awaited with eagerness. OAMARU, Dee 20. The Oamaru Magisterial recount has been proceeding this morning before Mr Bundle, S.M.. and enquiries made just before midnight elicited the reply that no announcement would he made. TO MEET ON JANUARY loth. WELLINGTON, December 21. An Extraordinary Gazette convokes Parliament for Monday, January 15th.
