The Urey correspondent of 'The Press’ says it is reported that the defeated Liberal candidate for Motueka sent, Mr liohort Patterson, has received word from Wellington to liohl himself in readiness for another election about the middle of February. The iniiitu'i l iil com petition for tin* Scott Memorial Essay, open to school pupils in the Grey Distant resulted in a win for Miss Louisa Outrani (of the Greyinouth D.H. School) in A. grade (larger schools). There were only 8 marks separating the first eight pupils. The winning marks numbered ”8 and Master V. Hutchinson (Blackball School) came a close second with ”6 marks. In the li. grade competition, the first and second places were filled by pupils of Tnylorville school. Misses M. McMahon and W.
