General Mulcahy’s first act, after the courtesies of the departure of the British forces, was to hoist the White, Green and Orange tricolour of the Irish Free State. ~ The Free- State troops next paraded the streets, and took over the various barracks. They then assembled, and were reviewed by General Mulcahy. A difference in the bearing of the British forces and the Free State troops was most marked.- - . A . , . General Mulcahy was overheard td v tell the Dublin Guards: “For Gods sake, put your shoulders back! Try to lodic like soldiers!”
