At Greymouth yesterday in trying to turn in the stream and to avoid the s.s. Ngakuta, which was tied right astern at the wharf, the s.s. Regulus ran aground on the Cobclen side of the river at 4.35 in the afternoon and remained fast until 5.25 p.m. Her bow was for a. time fast on the other side, and her engines were alternately run ahead and astern. Meantime the tide was making .and the wake created by the engines’ threshing propellors helped to lift her bow ofr, and after 50 minutes striving, she forced her way eft' the mud and sailed swiftly down the river, leaving in her wake a troubled mass of muddy water

Mr Kenner of the A.M.C.A. walking party to tour the South Wostland district at Christmas, was in town yesterday, making preparations for the advent of visitors, and went on to Boss in the afternoon. The party numlierng about 30 will reach Ross next Saturday night and camp in the lota ra Hall. Next morning they leave for Waitaha Junction by Stuart and Chapman’s tramway, and then walk on to Hari Hari, camping the night at the Public Hall. On Christmas Day the party walk to Wataroa, and camp in the Thomson. Memorial Hall, and wilt spend a few days lnountaineeiing. Dr Tcichelman is lion, adviser for the tour, and will probably visit South Westland during the visitors’ sojourn there.'
