At the Herrin massacre trial at Atarion, Illinois, Donald Ewing, a newspaper reporter, described finding six men roped together, three dead and the otheis uying.. The witness identitied one of the accused as a miner, who covered him with a gun and refused to allow him to bring water in response to tlie dying men’s appeals. MOONSHINERS LEADER KILLED. NEW YORK, December 15. At Lexington, in Kentucky, a dozen Federal prohibition officers killed the so-called Moonshine Monarch of Kentucky, hut they lost one of their own number in a battle, following a pursuit to the mountain fastnesses to enable the eleven or twelve officers seeking vengeance to surround th' moonshine gang in their forest dugout. The police opened fire, resulting in the death of the gang leader, the surrender of one of liis brothers and the escape of another along with four moonshiners.
