To suit the, convenience of settlers and country residents, Mr IV. O’Brien is enlarging the scope of his royal mail motor service between Kokatahi, Koiterangi and Hokitika. The service will run each day from Kokatahi and return exit-pi Wednesdays, and three times a week from Koiterangi with a special run to Hokitika from Kokatahi on Saturday evenings, while special cais will he available for special occasions to any part of the district.

In connection with the alterations m the railway timetable, some comment has been passed oil the service to Ross on Monday next. The train leaves Ross at o'."id a.m., and the return leaves Hokitika at 12.5 p.m. There is no other train to Ross from Monday at noon till Wednesday at 2.15 p.m. It appears as if consideration of the travelling public in this matter is of no moment. Apparently the Railway Department is continuing the course of simply considering what hours are worked by the driver, and is not considering the people who have to pay, in any particular whatever. T 1 the train patronage is found not to improve, it will he the fault of those responsible for the unhappy manner in which some trains are fixed to run, leaving no alternative but the use of motor cars by the travelling public.
