HOKITIKA HARBOUR BOARD

TUESDAY, DECEAIBER 12th. The Board mot at 5 p.m. Present— Alessrs G. A. Wood (Chairman), C. J. Nightingale, F- AlcGregOr, and AT. Houston. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and received and outward correspondence approved. Before the meeting started, the following resolution was carried, all standing: “This Board places oil record its sense of tho loss the Dominion has sustained in the death of the Audit inspector, Air Ralston, a most efficient, strict and honourable officer

and tendering sympathy with Mrs Ralston in her bereavement.” INWARD CORRESPONDENT. From Kokatahi settlers meeting asking for a reduction in harbour rate owing to the greatly increased valuation coming into power.—Received; replied to. From various shipping and mercantile firms regarding information and quotations.—Received. From Orr Bros., applying for use of skids leased by the Pine Mills Coy.,— Received; request granted as per terms stated. From F. E. O’Flynn, secretary W.E. A., Greymouth, appealing for funds Received; no action taken. From Pearson Memorial Fund, applying for funds.—Received; no action taken. From Valuation Department, enclosing alterations in valuation.—Received ; the roll to he amended accordingly. The acting harbourmaster reported that the channel is at present running in a north-westerly direction, during the last fortnight carrying from 10 to 12 feet of water. There is no change in the spit at the entrance to the river near the signal station, the late floods not being strong enough to remove it. A portion of the south wall disappeared in the recent flood. Some minor repairs were also needed.—Received. It was also decided to remove some eld stagipg at the southern end of the wharf, it becoming dangerous for traffic. Accounts passed for payment totalled C 352 6s 8d . The meeting then terminated.
