found both the prisoners guilty. Mrs Thompson had to lie supported by two warders after the sentence was passed. She sohhingT.v said: —“T am not guilty,” and then collapsed. By waters, walking to the front of the dock, and, looking defiantly first at the Jury Foreman and then at the Judge, said:—"The verdict is wrong! Edith Thompson is not guilty. I am no assassin!” Several women spectators, including Mrs Thompson’s mother, fainted when tliev heard the sentence. LONDON. Dec. 11. The newspapers point out that no woman has been hanged in Britain since the, execution of Wells, alias James, a baby farmer, who was executed at Cardiff in 1907.
