AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. SYDNEY, Dec. 8. Arrangements have been completed for Mac!aren’s team to sail by tlie Moeraki to-day. MELBOURNE, Dec. 8. At the bides competition all classes were very good and late values were firmly maintained. A PROSPEROUS COMPANY. MELBOURNE, December 8. The annual meeting of the Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life Assurance Society was held here to-day. The chairman, Mr J. T Thompson, reported that the new business written and accepted amounted to 112,074 policies, assuring £8,100,551. which was a record in the history of the society. Tho total income was now £1.642,680, an increase of £220,159. In the short space of six years, the income of the Society had been increased by nearly £1.000.000. The total assets are now £5,843,579 of which approximately 75 per rent, is invested in Australian and New Zealand Government and Municipal securities. The rate of interest on mean funds had increased to £5 7s per cent. The Actuary’s report disclosed a total surplus of £157152. providing bonuses in the ordinary Department on a higher scale than previously. The Chairman considered that the great growth of the Society is due largely to the fact that the public of Australia and N.Z. are now alive to the wisdom of assuring in a progressive mutual life office where they reap the whole benefits of what their contributions earn.
