Overseas Shipping Companies have announced substantial reductions in passenger rates between Australia and Now Zealand ports and Europe. Rates on mail steamers were first-class £l3O to £l7O sterling. The new rate will be £ll4 to £134; second class £lO-5 to £l2O old, £B6 to £9O new. PROTEST AGAINST DUTY. SYDNEY, Dec 1. The Graziers’ Association has protested to the Customs’ Minister against a dumping duty being declared on South African maize. It is pointed out there will be a shortage of local supplies till February and owing to the sct'cro drought conditions it is essential no harrier should ho placed in front of the stock owners endeavouring to obtain fodder for their staiving stock.
