AND LIQUOR QUESTION. Tin; following resolution was carried by The .Scottish Trade Union Congress at Aberdeen, in April, 1021, (210 delegates, representative of bCO.OOO workers). “That this Congress, having in mind the recent elections under the Scotch' I'.ocal Veto Act .recognises that no real rfnrm of the licensing laws is possible that seeks to force or wrench the people from long acquired social habits by means of restriction, or prohibition ; therefore this Congress now urges the I’nrlinmontnry .Committee of the Scottish Trades Union Congress to press upon the Government such change in tile laws governing the liquor trade as will secure the evolution of a brighter and hotter public-house or inn, where social intercourse and uiioymont will he posible, and provision 01 which is urgently desired by all true temperance reformers.” The Independent Labour I’artv, at its Conference in April, 1922, rejected a resolution in lavour of Prohibition. Official Labour •organisations the world over have expressed keen resentment at the teetotal fanatics’ interference with the work-rs’ freedom. Vote Continuance. —87.
