The weather was glorious and the wicket good for the second day’s play. ■ There was rain over-night, but the wicket was protected. The attendance was 15,000. The Victorians resumed .batting with 5 down for 44. Runs came at a good pace, fifty being made in forty-three minutes. Hartkoff gave a fine exhibition, and hit nine fours. Woodful was cautious. Tyldesley kept runs Mown. Hartkoff gave a sharp chance to Maclaren in the slips when 56. The Woodful-Tlartkoff partnership added 144. Woodful was brilliantly run out by Chapman, after batting 165 minutes. Ho bit three fours. Ransford was smartly caught in the slips. The fielding generally was of a high standard.
