LLOYD GEORGE’S AVARNING. LONDON, Nov. 4
Mr Lloyd George at Oldham, said ho had not intended to nay a word to embarrass the Government, engaged in a difficult operation for the peace of Europe, but recent events more than justified the late Government’s attitudein the Near East. He hoped the Government would take stern, resolute action, otherwise the result would be disastrous to our prestige in the East and Europe generally.
ANGORA ATTITUDE. GENEVA, Nov. 14
The Angora delegation to Lausaime state if they are to be confronted with the Allied decisions made at Paris, they will leave the Conference. They declare they do not intend to capitulate to a .sort of ultimatum from Paris. Britain, France and Italy have agreed to confer at Lausanne with representatives of Belgium, Sweden, and Denmark, whenever their economic interests arise.
CONSTANTINOPLE, Nov. 14
The Allies havo handed over Rodosto to the Kemnlists. Adrianople will be handed over on the 19th.
Judges sitting in the Chamber of deputies have commenced the trial of cx-Ministers. They rejected a plea for the defence that tlie tribunal is incompetent. The Court will hear witnesses on Tuesday. Five thousand refugees have arrived from Constantinople.
TURKS STAND FIRM. LONDON, November 14
The “Daily Telegraph’s” Constantinople correspondent states that Rafet Pasha’s only concession to the Allied. High Commissioners is the appointment of liason officers between the Turkish and Allied police. He refuses to admit the resumption of Allied control.
It can only Ire hoped that serious incidents can lie averted until the Lausanne Conference.
If the present Turkish state of mind continues, it is difficult to see how war can be avoided, unless the Allies are ready to swajlow humiliating terms.
