Williamson Company arc abandoning their former policy of leasing theatres in New Zealand, and are acquiring the. freeholds. They propose to purchase from the Wqilington Opera House Company the old theatre now known as Everybody’s, which is used, for pictures .and the Grand Opera House in Manners Street, which Williamson’s have leased since its opening in 1914. This theatre, of brick and steel construction, lias two tiers or galleries, boxes, a stage large enough to accommodate any form of production, and ample dressing room accommodation divided from the stage by double brick walls. The block on which the theatre stands lias a frontage to Manners St. of llfi feet by a depth of 240 feet, and is surrounded by right-of-ways giving ample exits.
A reminder is given of the Cop Celebration Ball to be held in the Opera House this evening, dancing commencing at 8.30 o’clock. The United Football Club which has organised the function as a wind-up to their successful sou son will he the hosts and have enlisted the good, offices of Mesdanies Morgan and Butland as the hostesses. Very complete arrangements have been made for the gathering and patrons will he well catered for. The flooT will he in good order, and first class music will be provided. The ladies responsible for the supper will see to it that it will he the best. Altogether there is sure to he a very large gathering. On Friday night there will he a juvenile dance at the Opera House conducted by the Club for the entertainment of the young folk.
