Park Street, Hokitika. Mv Dear Mary. Your note to hand and now I realise why you are called “Clever Alary”. Ido envy you getting through washing day so quickly and cheerfully, thanks to your economical gas copper. I still use the old stoking copper and what a day I had yesterday. The wood was wet, the coal was wet, and it took no end of stoking to make the water boil. It was late in the day before T had the clothes on the line, and the shower in the late afternoon spoiled the drying I worked far into the night trying to get the washing away. Had to have a big fire in the kitchen all the evening to dry off the clothes. I showed your note to .Tim and T think he was sympathetic. Anyhow he said he would call at W. H. Shannon’s in Revel! Street and see what could he done, so I hope to get through next week’s washing as comfortably as you do. Full of hope and expectation. with love, Yours Faithfully, DOROTHY YOUKNOW.
