Air J. D. Lynch of Greymouth. the
- 1 Independent candidate a-t the forth- , coming diction addressed a wdi attended public meeting at the Totara ' Hall oil Saturday evening. The .Mayor i (S. P. Evans, Esq.), presided and briefly introduced the speaker, i Air Lynch spoke for about an hour and a half and was accorded a good hearing, his address being on. similar linos to those previously given and already reported. At the (lose of his address several questions wetre asked and answered satisfactorily. : A vote of thanks to the speaker for j his able address was moved and se- | concled by Alessrs A. P.. Sharkey, and I Mr Boyle respectively and carried unanimously. Mr Lynch after acknowledging the vote of thanks said he would now state definitely, for. tilt l first time, that he v. 0.? 1f! he a candidate at the com- | ing election and solicited the support ' of his many friends in assisting to re-I turn him at the head of thei poll. , A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting. CYCLE RACES. Several weeks ago a series of six bicyclo races was started between local .competitors. •The' third race took place on Saturday evening and created quite a lot of excitement. The handicaps were as follows:—1. Chapman and W. Teague scr., A Parker 35secs., .1. Ablesoii ami (). Hahn -lOsecs., J. Jluiilalinn 50 sec.. T. Clare 65 secs., 'J. PJ i l l ] ip-s 70 secs., and C. Fellowes SO sees. The race resulted as follows:--,T. Houlahan 1, J. Chapman 2, and A\ . Teague 3. The prizes for Saturday’s race were kindly donated by Air I. Brown of Hokitika, the first being a valuable gold medal, .the second a cycle head lamp. For the previous race the prizes were kindly donated by Mr i’ethig. Points are given each race ami the competitor gaining the highest aggregate over the six races will he the recipient of a handsome gold medal donated by Mr .1. Chapman Senr. of Ross. The Club is very grateful to the donors of those prizes for their generosity m supplying such valuable prizes. The next race takes place next Saturday evening.
