On Saturday afternoon a rink from the Grey Bowling Club who will be passing through Hokitika will play a game with a local four, commencing about 2.30 p.m.
A meeting of hotel, tea-room and restaurant workers will be held in the Opera House to-night at 8 o’clock, with a view to forming a union and to have the Greyniouth award explained.
Practice oil the Bowling Club is attracting a good muster o. players each evening, and in spite of the frequent rain of the past few days, play has take place, the green rolling out fairly well though heavy, but enabling good practice to lie obtained.

Supporters of Mr James O’Bnsu (Labor candidate for Westland) are invited to meet at the Westland Opera House to-night at 8 o’clock, for the purpose of forming a committee to further the candidate’s return. Country members and ladies are specially invited to attend.
The baths which are now under strict control and management, are proving popular particularly with the young folk, and swimming parties are being arranged daily. It is intended shortly to organise, a formal opening carnival. The swimming baths promise to serve their legitimate purpose very successfully this season.
Air S. Vitaglich met with a very painful accident in the railway workshops, Greyniouth, on Monday, through a piece of steel cutting on artery in the arm, necessitating several stitches being inserted. Mr Vitaglich will be off work for a time.
The Chief Electoral Officer. (Mr Jotnes Hislop) announces that the writs for the General Election will be issued on Thursday. Nov lfith. This means that the second supplementary roll, which is the final roll, will be closed at II p.m. on that day. The elections must he htt’d not later than 21 days after the issue of the writs. Three weeks from November 16th is December 7th.

Ho quoted figure's ioniparing the amount ol taxation a head in Australia and New Zealand in years before and after the war. In 1914, the taxation a head in Australia was £4 13s Del, whilst in New Zealand it was £5 10s, a difference, of about 17s. In 1921 the taxation per head in Australia had increased to £l3 Is, whilst in New Zealand it had got up to £lB 9s. a difference of £o Bs, and an increase since 1914 of £l2 19s a head.
The Hokitika branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association will hold a reunion in the‘form of a smoke conceit at the Suprenip Hall to-morrow night, commencing at 8 o’clock. Col. Young of Christchurch will he the guest of honor, and among the speakers will he Air W. E. I.eadloy of Christchurch, secretary to the Canterbury headquarters of the R.S.A. A short toast-list has teen prepared and a number of musical items arranged for. To-mor-row night will he the eve ol the anniversary of Armistice Day, 1918. and is a fitting occasion, for such a gathering. Returned men may obtain tickets from ATessrs Sluuul (treasurer), and Kerr (secretary) ol the Hokitika branch. Messrs Laughton Bros. are the caterers for the gathering.
On Alondav evening a very pleasant social was held in the Methodist Schoolroom, the object being to say farewell to Aliss Eva Bc-rendt, the elm it'll organist, and also to welcome the new comers. Between 00 and 70 members ol the church and congiegagation assembled and a very liappf time was spent in music and games. During the evening opportunity was taken to present Aliss Birendt with a handsome pearl necklace and appreciative refrenee to her work in the church was made, on behalf of tile church by Air Duff, choir (Air I.aing), and Sunday School (Mr Bassett), llev J. 1‘ • .lack extended a hearty welcome to the other guests of the evening. The AVestland AVar Alemo.ial which is being so generally admired because of its striking beauty, and rather pleasing situation, is to be unveiled at 2.30 o’clock to-morrow afternoon. Colonel Young, D. 5.0.. of Christchurch is crossing to AVestland to-day to perform the ceremony, and to deliver the occasional address. The military and returned soldiers, including also the Band and Veterans, will assemble at the Drill Hall at 1.-15 o’cock to-mor-row. As there' is a pulilie linlf-holiday in both town and country there shouhl he an excellent muster of territorials and senior cadets who will constitute the gpard of honor. The miTtarv profession will march by way of Revel! Street and Stafford Street to Cass Square while the schools will march from their respective grounds to Cass Square. The military will form front of the memorial and the children on the south side. A platform will be erected for the speakers, and seats will lie provided for parents and relatives of the fallen. The programme of the ceremonial was circulated last evening, and will ho followed. During the proceedings-- at the cenotaph wreaths will be deposited on the memorial.
