Mr G. A’. Pearce, Independent Reform candidate, opened his campaign at Hawera- last night to a packed house. Ho adversely criticised the public expenditure and the present system ot taxation, lie urged that money should he borrowed by the Government and lent to the fanners for productive purposes. Ho instanced methods whereby taxation could he reduced, and where it could lie increased in other tl iris-lions. He advocated the taxation of local body trading concerns. He suggested reducing the minimum for the income tax to £2OO, with a £SO exemption for a wife and for each child. Jit received all attentive hearing and a vote of thanks.
