The trouhle in eonneetion with the ' soiimeii in Auckland is spreading, and to-morrow it is anticipated that the whole of the Northern Shipping Company’s steamers will lie laid up altogether. There are 17 steamers belougj ing to the Company affected hv the 1 award, and the crews include approxi- ' matelv 170 seamen, firemen, trimmers I greasers etc. { The A rah ura is still one trimmer [ short, while the Wnipori which has just been recommissioned and is due to sail to-morrow for Newcastle and Brisbane requires a full crew (seven A.B. s and six firemen). The TCaiapoi’s articles have expired, and she wants a similar number of men. None of these vessels are likely to get away, for when the call was j made for men this morning. there j was no labour offering. The Awahou, belonging to Richardson and Co.. is ! still two A.R.’s and three firemen short of her complement. Her departure for CJisborne is indefinite. About 50 passengers had hooked by the lAra)iura for C! isborne and Napier and most of them have proceeded overland. SIX .MORE CREWS RAID OFF. AUCKLAND, -November 1. The crews of six more of the Northern Company’s vessels were paid off to-day. on the expiration of 2) hours’ notice. Another crow will he paid off to-morrow, thus rendering idle all but one of the Company's hunts trading to Auckland. This affects over 100 seamen and firemen. The crews of the Richardson steamers Alako and Awahou have notified they are not working under the new award.
A further attempt was made to despatch the Arshma for Gisborne and Napier, a man having been engaged to fill the vacam-y. Two of the crew, however, tohl him to go on shore, which he promptly did. The Onion Cimpany has given the crew 21 hours’ in tier.
The Onion Company’s Waipori. which is being recommissioned, after overhaul, was to have said for Brisbane to-day, hut the men after hearing that the clause dealing with t’’e new award was included in the articles, walked out of the office.
