H.M.S. Vero' ica.
VISIT TO (iHJiVMOtITH. (Grey Argus). H.M.S. Veronica' left Westport yesterday morning and steamed slowly down to the Greymoutli roadstead, whicli she reached ahoiit 5 p.m., and then east anchor. A numerous assemblage at the tip head and at tin? wharf awaited her entry to port, but they were disappointed. The steamer Waimea. took the bar outward bound nliout 5.30 p.m.. and had a pretty lively spin crossing over. Four balls wer then hoisted for the Veronica to enter, and a flag signal was hoisted by the harbour authority. The warship, however, remained at anchor. It is understood that the Commander bad wired from Westport to the local authorities asking for the tug to meet him with a pilot, but the authorities evidently thought the bar was quite all right. The Commander of the Veronica evidently preferred not to risk his ship in the circumstances, as there was a good swell on the bar, and probably lie did the (right thing. The Veronica is expected to enter port this morning about 5 o’clock. During the day the school children are to be afforded the opportunity to inspect the ship, which will depart to-mor-row for Milford Sound. ,
