WELLINGTON, October 25. I'lIE COUNCIL. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. Hon. Cohen initiated a discussion on child labour and the Council unanimously passed the following motion That the attention of Government ho drawn to the necessity of school age fn employment, which interfered with their school work. Several members stated that it was not employment before school hours which had a serious effect upon school children, but Into hours at night. Children received too much encouragement to attend picture shows. The Council adjourned at 4 p.m. and resumed at 8 p.m. Cemeteries Amendment Bill was taken in committee. Several members suggested that sub-clause 0) of Clause \ 2 went further than was intended and might giro trustees the right to close a cemetery. The following clause was substituted—Trustees of a cemetery may make regulations prohibiting internment of more, than one body and prescribing conditions subject to which more than one body may he interned in one grave. The Bill was passed as amended. Crimes Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed. Whansnrei Borough Leasing Empowering Bill was passed after considerable opposition with Amendments which did not seriously affect the measure. ' Government Bailways Amendment Bill and Fencing Amendment Bill were passed through all stages without amendment. The Council adjourned at 0.1-5. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 n.m. Tn the House the Agricultural Committee reported that the Hairy Produce Exnort Control Bill he allowed to proceed. A lengthy discussion followed on the general principles of the Bill which | not being concluded at 5.30 p.m., the Bill was “talked out”, hut may come i up again to-morrow. j At the evening sitting, the Aid to Public Works and Land Settlement ' Bill and Main Highways Bill were put through Committee, read a. third time and passed. Further progress was made with the “Washing Up” Bill. Tho House went into committee on the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment. Progress was reported and the House roue 12.10 &•»,
