Air Myers K.C., in a legal opinion says the Government cannot control the hoard in bringing into force the compulsory clauses of the Dairy Produce or Dairy Pool Act. that are at present before the Hones. The measure wives full power to the Board to act independently of any Oidci-m-Gouncil. He says that if the co-ope-rative coys., have been induced to support the proposed Bill on the strength of the statement of the Alinister of Agriculture, that the Board could nol put the compulsory clauses into force without the consent of the Government thov have been innocently misled.

The Newspapers Proprietors’ Association held a meeting tc-da.v to consider tile tenders for next year s supply of newsprint paper. The meeting expressed keen disappointmnt that no reduction has been made in the cost of newsprint, which, as disclosed bv the tenders, shows an increase of 100 per cent over the pre-war prices. Thomas Nelson Millars. the coiner (alight red handed by the police at his illegal work recently, before the Court this morning and he pleaded guilty to a charge of having made co'intorloit coin with intent to make it pa-s tor silver. He was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. Afillars. in a statement read in Court said he was a labourer employed bv Auckland Harbour Boa id. Two months ago he made plaster of paris moulds for shillings, and made 28 shillings which lie circulated in hotels and tobacconists. A month ago lie made a florin mould and turned out 15 t: 17 coins. Five weeks ago he commenced half crown moulds. They did not take the print of the coin very good. He manufactured 59 half < rowns and spent ten of them in hotels.
