The postponed opening of the season of the Hokitika Bowling Club will take place on Saturday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. when tlie presentation of the Cup to the winner of the singles championship and of two handsome gold medals presented by Mr ,T. J. Mclntosh, for the winners of the handicap pairs last season, will also take place. A full attendance is desired. Afternoon tea will Ik- provided. On Thursday and Friday nights of next week, visiting scientists will visit Hokitika under the auspices of the Westland branch of the Canterbury Progress League, and deliver a series of four interesting, illustrated lectures on informative subjects. It is reported that the body of Norman Wildermoth, of Reef ton, one of the victims of the lagoon fatality at Greymouth, has been recovered.

The ferry boat connected this morning with the West Coast express. Owing to there being a large slip on the road between Wainihinilii and Jackson’s, the motor mail car was unable to get past Wainihinilii to-day, and therefore the mail for Hokitika will not arrive till to-morrow morning, coming down % the train.

Messrs Curtain and party, sawmillers, Waitangi-Taona, telegraphed to Mr Seddon, M.P., this week reporting the bridge site at Waitangi, and the sawmill which is to cut the timber for the new bridge about to be erected, were endangered by Hood erosion. M.r Seddon waited on the Minister of Public Works and represented the ease. Mr Coates has now agreed to authorise the expenditure ot a flood damage vote of £IOO to secure the situation and property. The amount will be very acceptable fur the urgent work required.
