WELLINGTON, October 20. THE COUNCIL.

Tho Council met at 2.30 p.m. At the request of the Leader of tho Council, the Companies Amendment incut Bill was treated as an urgent measure. The standing orders were suspended and tile hill passed all stages without amendment.

Hon. Izard hoped tho Government would heed the warning and amend the Companies Act t* prevent companies taking money on deposit, unless they could show that they had assets to moot their h’abilites Several amendments were made to Tongariro National Park Bill which was passed. The Warden was removed from the Board and the Governor General given tlie right to make four appointments instead of tlirca. It was also provided that all appointments made h.v the Board should be subject to the approval of the Minister of Lands. It was further provided that the Board shall not permit the cutting of timber for trade purposes. Harbours Amendment Bill passed without amendment.

The following bills were read first time,—Stamp Duties, Crimes AmendCemeteries Amendment. The Council adjourned at 8.40 p.m. THIS HOUSE. The House met at 2.80 p.m. The Premier moved the second reading of the Aid to Public Works and Land Settlement Bill which authorised the raising of a loan of four millions for public works and Land Settlement Bill which authorised tho raising of a loan of four millions for public works and general development purposes. On this motion, the discussion on the Public Works Statement was taken the criticism generally being of a favourable character. The hill was read n. second time, and the whole of the Public Works Estimates, amounting to £0,102,223 were passed in five minutes. The Mouse rose at 1 20 a.m. till 7.30 p.m. on Monday.
