At the Magistrate’s Court, Reefton, on Thursday morning, Mark Fagan, secretary of the Inangahua Miners’ Union, was charged by the police with assaulting John William Osbourne, by striking him with his fist. Sergeant Hyland appeared for the prosecution, and Mr Patterson for defendant. Evidence was given at length, and after hearing four witnesses and defendant, His Worship said there was little doubt that Osbourne and Walshe had looked for trouble, and they only got what they were looking for. The death took place at Reefton Hospital on Wednesday afternoon of Airs Alary Harvey, a very old resident of the district. The deceased had been in failing health for some time l>ast, so that her death was not unexpected. The late Airs Harvey with her late husband resided at Black’s Point for many years, later coining to Reefton. The late Airs Harvey was 85 years of age, and came from Cornwall to the West Coast, and had resided in the Inaiigahna District ever since. She leaves one son. Air W. Harvey, of Upper Broadway.
The death occurred at her residence, Reef ton, on Thursday morning, of Mrs Bridget Higgins, relict of tlie late Patrick Higgins of Boss. The deceased lady who bad resided in Beef ton for the past twelve years came to Boss as a young woman, and lived there until her removal to Beefton. She had been in failing health for the past three years, but was cheerful and uncomplaining throughout, and only the last few days has the deceased been compelled to stay in her bed. Mrs Higgins was a native of County Galway, Ireland, and 78 years of age. She leaves a. grown up family of four daughters, Mrs W. Rivers and Mrs Downie, Beefton, Mrs P. Lloyd, Sydenham, and Mrs Brady, Auckland, and two sons, .Joint and Peter.

There was an extremely heavy thunderstorm in the early hours this mo ing. Vivid lightning was followed by deafening claps of thunder and a heavy downpour of rain followed.

We regret to record the death yesterday of Mrs Horn, a well-known resient of Ross of many years. The deceased was a widow, and was 76 years of age. She leaves three daughters, (two married, one single), to mourn their loss. The funeral takes place to Boss Cemetery on Sunday afternoon.
A party of young men set out this morning on a caravan tour of Soutn AVestland. A commodious movable house was built for a local lorry, and the internal arrangements made quite homely. Eight bunks were provided for sleeping quarters. It is proposed to spend two days in the glacier region, camping in the taravan. There should be a very jolly outing enjoyed. On Monday several largo parties are visiting Lake Kanieri, the launch nowbeing in good running order.

Mowlem, S.AL, at the .Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth, appropos of the contention of counsel that evidence concerning a conversation which had taken place at his office should have been admitted during the hearing of the action (reports the “Taranaki News”).
