There were fortyseven starters, including some of the leading cyclists of the Dominion. The winner did the journey in remarkably good time—s hours 12 mins. Results.—L. R. The second man was ton minutes behind the first. Tho winner also secured fastest time, and Bonis made second fastest Junto. ANGLICAN SYNOD. AUCKLAND, Otolier 18. Tlu> Anglican Diocesan Synod to-day carried n motion:—“That the Church people he recommended to vote for prohibition at the forthcoming, poll.” The voting was as follows—The Clergy—For prohibition 42; against 25. The Laitv—For 20; against 16.
The Synod rejected an amendment framed on the lines of tho Inst General Synod’s resolution, to tho effect that the Synod should express a strong conviction that it is the hounden duty of Christian people, unless prepared to vote for the total prohibition of liquor traffic, to have some other drastic remedy for an evil which is sapping the work and efficiency of the community. A SAD CASE.
AUCKLAND, Oct IK. A woman over whose detention in Avondale* Asylum, a good deal of discussion took place recently, after strenuous protests by Rev Mason of Otaliuhti, was to-day recommitted to the Mental Hospital us insane, by a Magistrate. A lodging house keeper gave evxidencc as to < xtraonlinary delusions held by the woman, and the local constable said the woman was certainly insane. Medical men certified as to the woman’s insanity.
