PRICE OF FLOUR.
CHRISTCHURCH. October 16. Millers will not lie penalised in connection with the reduction of £2 10s per ton in Tlie price of flour to take effect from November 1. The Government intends to compensate them for the losses they would otherwise make on their stocks of flour already acquired. which they will he compelled to dispose of at the new and reduced price. Air W. G. McDonald. Government ATheat Controller, made a statement to this effect to-day. Mr AfeDonald said that until certain details of the scheme are settled, the announcement of the Government’s proposals would lie deferred. However, at this stage lm could state that the millers would receive an allowance on the flour sold at the reduced price. There will be no refund to millers on stocks of wheat they now hold, and which were purohasod by them at tlie prices fixed by the Government. The adjustment to compensate them wi lic made on flour as it is actually sold. Air AfoDonald further explained that millers have purchased stocks of wheat this season subject to a loading charge of 9d per liushel imposed by tlie Government. After meeting the expenses of the control scheme from this loading charge there has been a balance in the Government’s favour, which was a safe guard in view of tlie export operations which the Government also carried out.
