Air Seddon (Westland) in the Houseasked the .Minister of Public Works whether his attention had been drawn to the deplorable condition of the road south of Ross, which was the main south rood leading to the Eran.z Joset Glacier, and whether the Department intended to do anything in the matter; further, did the honourable gentleman know that the mail' contractor was unable at the present time to get his cars through and thus carry out his contract with the Postal Department. The matter had been ventilated by tho Westland Chamber of Commerce. He (Afr Seddon) desired to know wliat the Departments concerned intended to do in the matter.

The Hon Mr Coates (Minister of Public Works) replied that the matter had been represented to him, and he had asked the District Engineer to report. He had not received any information from tho Department, lmt as soon as he did be would let the honourable gentleman know whfit the Gov- ’ eminent was prepared to do.—Hani sard.
