NEW ZEALAND WINS. HILL FIRST. WRIGHT FIFTH. O’SHEA FASTEST TIME. AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. OABL* ASSOCIATION MELBOURNE, October 15. 'l’he cycle road race from Warrnambool to Melbourne took place on Saturday. It created great interest. The weather was fine and bright, and there was a big attendance at the finishing point. The results were as follows: 11.I 1 . Hill (New Zealand) 32min. start first. R. Arnold (West Australia) 38min. start, second. W. Rose (Victoria) 38m in start, third. D. Wright (New Zealand) 28inin. start, was fifth. Phil O’Shea (New Zealand) made the fastest time. (Hill is a Christchurch man. and has ridden in local races during the Inst few years with some success.) An enormous crowd gathered to witness the finish of the AVarrnambool to Melbourne cycle race. When the first competitors were sighted, the spectators got out of control. The mounted police vainly tried to keep them in hand, and they were compelled to turn a. water hose on them. This resulted in a general melee, during which a number of the competitors in the race fell.

Over two hundred started in the rare, which resulted in Hill winning by three lengths. Hill’s time was Olirs. 20 mins. Ssecs.

Phil O’Shea’s time was 81irs. 59min Bseos. O’Shea also won the fastest time, front scratch, in the Warms mbool race in,1911.

Nearing the finish, a non-competitor tried to pace the lea'ding group, and he brought down Osborne, who was loading. Many of the riders straggled in after darkness. Fell.
