Thomas Nelson Millars charged at Lhici Police Court that he made counter teit coin with intent to make it pass for current silver coin was remanded till October 19th. The chief detective opposed the application for hail and raid counterfeit coin had been circulating throughout the Dominion for some months. Quite a lot of counterfeit coin was found on the premises where the accused was arrested. He admittill having fitvdy icirrailated counterfeit coin about the city. Ihe charge was laid under a section of the Crimes Act. which made a person con- . victed liable to life imprisonment. Mr Pcvnton S..M. fixed bail at LI.OOO. j EARTHQUAKES. ; TAUMARUNUI, Oct 13. The town of Tainnarunni was shaken almost continuously with earthquakes last night. A heavy shock was experienced about midnight and numerous others after of varying length and intensity. There was boisterous weather this morning and heavy thunder. j SEAMEN’S WAGES. WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. The Arbitration Court’s new award for seamen has fixed wages on the basis of the 11*20 agreement, subject to all bonuses reductions ordered since then, with alternative calculations based on the Court’s basic wage, less ten shillings weekly in the case ol married men rationed aboard ship. The Court has ignored the Australian rates and cost of living variations, . owing to differences in the methods ol computing and the fact that the cost of living in New Zealand did not vary in a constant ratio with the Australian figures. The new award runs till the first ol Mav next.
