Tine following 'Bills were read a first time an drefenrd to the Local Bills Commitee:— Mosgiel Borough Empowering; Bay of Islands Harbour Amendment ; The Whangarei Borough Empowering. The Council passed' without amendment the Laud Laws Amendment Bill and Hami'/ton Domains Amendment Bill. • _ In reply to a suggestion that Clause !) of the Land Bill should be extended to enable lessees of educational endowment reserves to surrender present leases and obtain a new lease, Sir William Fraser said that there .was a difficulty in amending the law in that direction this session. The matter had received the attention of Government and if necessary legislation would be introduced next year so that no injustice would he dAne. The Council adjourned at 3.5 p.m. THE HOUSE. The House met at 2.30 p.m. The House made progress with the 1 and and Income Tax Bill, which was postponed to enable further consideration being given to -certain clauses. The Workers’ Compensation Bill and Infirm Persons’ Protection Bill were put through Committee, read a third time and passed. The House rose at 11.5 till 7.30 p.m. on Monday
