RUBBER INDUSTRY
/Received this dav at 0..10 a. in A LONDON, October 12. The Colonial Office has been investigating the depression in the rubber growing industry and has issued a report which Hon'. AV. Churchill has approved, recommending a restricted output in Ceylon nnd Malay Straits Settlements, on a sliding scale, calculated on a three months period, until the price of rubber averages 15 pence per pound. The first stage will be the authorisation of export not exceeding 60 pier cent of the standard production, at a minimum export duty and thereafter 5 per cent quarterly in export production at a. minimum duty. It is necessary that the proposals be approved by the colonies concerned. Several British estates in Dutch East Indies have offered to co-operate in a voluntarily restriction of output.
