In a conciliatory speech when presenting the proposed convention General Harington thanked Ismct for ordering the cessation of the movement of Turkish troops. He describes the torins of the convention, a,s genoious. It appeared to him that the Turks were offered nearly all their national aspirations, without the loss of a life, and without disturbing the peace and prosperity of their country. Their goal was within reach and would be entirely in their own hands in forty-five days. All the Allies asked was: (1) That the present zones he respected till the ratification of peace; (2) That the Turks limit the gendarmerie in Thrace; (3) The presence of Allied detachments and missions in Thrace for a most limited period.
