AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. BOTH SIDES AMICABLE. ; LONDON, October G. 1 Messages from Smyrna state that the Allied Generals, with M. Bouillon, met the Turk delegates, linnet l’asha and Fezir Pasha, in the first conference at the Turkish gendarmerie. Their talk lasted for ninety minutes. | A fervent desire for an agreement j was expressed by both sides.
The Turkish view point coincided with that of the Allies on all the important points of principle.
! Certain objections were advanced by the Turks in a- conciliatory manner. I LONDON, October 4. ! The Greeks have joined the MudaJ nia Conference, where the delegates | are discussing Thrace, which was not included in the preliminary agreement.
GREEK DELEGATES. ( LONDON, October 5. j The Greek delegates to the Mudania . Conference are Colonel Plnstiros, one of the leaders of the revolution, and Colonel Sniiicnnms. They arrived on Wednesday, and were present at a secI ond conference, which considered the : problem of Thrace.
i After the meeting the general opinion was that the Greeks were becoming reconciled to the position.
AT MUDANIA CONFERENCE. * (Received this dav at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Oct 5. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Constan- ; tinople correspondent states the first offieial news regarding Mudania Conference reached British headquarters | on Wednsday morning. It says the Conference is proceeding satisfactorily. The Nationalists accepted the 1 Allies' note in principle and Ismet Pasha issued orders to Nationalist troops to avoid all contact. Apparently only Chanak was discussed the question of Thrace being reserved until the coming of the Greek representatives.
MR DONOGHUE’S REPORT. (Received this dav at 8 a.m.) LONDON, Oct 4
Mr Donogliue telegraphing from Chanak, says the last time he landed at Chanak was during the Balkan war. The only difference, is that a British garrison . -has replaced the Turks, When the Kemalists arrived a fortnight ago, flushed with victory, a very thin khaki line he-ld the position. Kenial might have broken through, hut lie waited too long, and now we can snap our fingers at the ’furs. Colonel Shuttlewjortli worked, uncctisingly upon the defences ■ and reinforcements tame. Now there arc two divisions at Chanak under General Maiden, including yiwmvoods, Sussex, Scottish Borderers, Gordon Highlanders, and Light Infantry. The British temper was sorely tried during Hit- Kcmalist incursion, hut the order was that the Kemalists must fire the first, shot. To-day they seem to he retiring,
AGREEMENT CONFIIIMED, ,Received this day at 8 a.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, Oct o. Turks are retiring from Chanak. The agreement confirmed gives Thrace to the Turks. A joint Turkish and Allied Commission will control Constantinople.

NOT CONFIRMED. (Received this dav at 8 a.m.) LONDON*. October 5. A so far not confirmed semi-official message from Athens states Turks bomluarded ail American destroyer which was shipping refugees at Aivali.
RUSSIA’S ARMY. HELSINGFORS, October 5. The All Russian Executive Committee has ordered compulsory militaiy service which will last, for infantry a year anil a half, cavalry two years, air "force three and a half years and navv, four and a half years'.
NO OFFICIAL NEWS. (Received this day at 10.30 a.m ) LONDON, October 5. Official circles have not received any news of the terms agreed upon at Mudaniii, and scout as most improbable the sensational Paris report that the Allies threatened to blockade Greece unless the Greeks withdraw from Thrace within, ten days, and that Britain lias undertaken to withdraw from Chntiak and cross to Gallipoli. They point out that the Military Conference at Mudania is not empowered to take such political action.
GREEK ACTIVITY. (Received this day at 10.30 a.m ) ATHENS, October 3. Men of all classes and ages are crowding the recruiting office volunteering to fight in Thrace. It is understood while the Government will not consent to evacuate Thrace, it would accept a temporary administration by the Allied , Commission. ! kemaJjlst cavalry. CONSTANTINOPLE, October 5. British headquarters reports the appearance of Kemalist cavalry at Kau<k'a in Constantinople neutral zone. GREEK FEELING. (Received till’s day at 10.30 a.m I ATHENS. Oct, o. The decisions of Mudania Cnoference were talien in hot haste before the arrival of the Greek delegates, and caused a painful impression. The newspapers declare the question of Thrace proves the bankruptcy of European Christianity. The “ Hestia ” says the return of the Turks to Europe constitutes treason and betrayal. The handing over of Thrace means not sovereignty, hut massacre and extermination. The newspapers appeal to the Christians of America. TURKISH OBJECTIONS. LONDON, Oct, 5. Communiques state ttie Turks are objecting to clauses of the protocol. The Allies are conciliatory and are endeavouring to find a formula.
