Supper is being provided. [ Wo regret to record the death of a very old and respected resident of Kanieri district in the person of Mr William ,J. Burke, which took place ( yesterday. The deceased who was ; single man, a native of Ireland and 79 years of age, came to New Zealand about 50 years ago and had followed minin" pursuits. He was well-known in the district and generally respected. He .was a brother of the late Mr E A. Burke of Greymouth and Mr J. L. Burke of Wellington, and the Misses Burke of Greymouth are nephew and nieces respectively.

The Kiwi Ball took place in the Towu Hall last evening and proved a huge success. The floor was in excellent order and the dancing space was well-filled all the evening. The Royal Orchestra supplied the music which was of the usual high order. During t u e evening Mr Gillcoly thanked all present for their attendance and also all those who had helped to make the evening the success it had been. A dainty supper was provided by the ladies and dancing was kept going till the early hours of the morning. A Juvenile Dance takes place to-night.

The death occurred oil Tuesday evening at her residence, 25 Kensington Street, Wellington, of Airs A. W. Taira 11, formerly of Greymouth. Deceased had been in ill-health for some months, and her death was not unexpected. She was horn at Dunstnn (Otago), and came to Greymouth when a child, being one of the town's o|dest residents. About 11 years ago she left Greymouth to reside at Wellington. Her husband predeceased her about two and a half years ago, and she leaves one son, Arthur (Hokitika), and two daughters: Mrs L. F. do Berry (Palmerston North), and Miss Ahoy Yarrall, who nursed her mother throughout her illness. The late Mrs Yarrall was 65 years of age. By the wish of deceased, the body will he cremated.
