THAT NECESSARY CLEAN-UP. (To the Editor). The writer of the contribution re beautifying Hokitika town, is quite ri<dit in his views, for the smells and sights are very much in evidence, and if nil were particular, those who are not, made to lie so, this town with the rain we have should ho perfectly sweet.
If the residents helped them would soon he no unsightly spots. For instance, the enclosure in front of tbe Tennis Court near the Wesleyan Church should be seen to. The drains around the -churches, where the lads stand chatting, and littering ground with refuse, such a.s cigarette papers, fruit skins; and behind the church viewed from Tailored Street, there is an unsightly heap which a few shillings would soon remove. Then in front of garages and business places, scraps littered about; in AVcld St alone there are two very ugly broken gates, near business places. Tbe Beautifying Society does its best, but it is impossible for them lo do all. I am etc., RATEPAYER. October Ist., 1922.
