Hokitika School Committee

MONDAY, OCTOBER 2nd

The Committee met at 7.30 p.m. Present—Messrs W- H - Shannon (Chairman), Stevenson, Aitken, Richards, King, Bruce, Rov. Purchos and Preston (hon. sec.). The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.

From Canterbury Education Board forwarding circular dealing witli dental treatment of school children, stating it would lie necessary if the services of the nurse were avniled of to arrange a room and for the transport and upkeep of the Nurse.—Received ; Mr King moved that the offer he availed of. Seconded by Rev. Purchas and earned. From South Spit teacher reporting average attendance for month 21.7, and asking for two days leave of absence to sit for an examination. —Received and request granted.

From Rector (Mr Irvine) reporting the roll number was 354 primary, 00 seeondniv, total -114. The average attendance for the quarter ended 30th. Sept, was 325.5; primary, 56.4; total 381.9. Asking for repairs to some of the clocks and forms.—Received. Mr Preston (Visiting Committee) reported having visited the.school, with no .requirements.—Received; Messrs Lloyd and Ring were appointed visitors.

It was resolved to ask Air McLean to give a picture benefit in aid of the school prize fund. It was resolved to ask the school staff to prepare a programme by the scholars for the presentation of prizes, to be made at a public evening function. Small accounts were passed for payment.

On the motion of Mr Bruce, seconded by Rev. Purchas, it was resolved to write to Hou. C. J. Parr, to enquire what steps had been taken to enable the Committee or High School Board to five effect to the proposal to establish a Hostel for hoys in Hokitika.

The Committee rose at 7.45 p.m
