Mr Todd, who presided, and introduced the other two . speakers, first addressed those present from the financial standpoint quoting figures and statistics at considerable length. Trelearen, Branch Secretary of the Canterbury Navy League, will arrive here to-morrow forenoon, his visit being in connection with the piesentatitm of the wonder picture of the British Navy, to he shown at the Princess Theatre to-morrow night. In consequence of the retirement of Police Superintendent McGrath, of Dunedin, some promotions and transfers in the fpree are necessitated, and Inspector Marsack of Napier,- is promoted Superintendent, altd goes to Dunedin. Inspector Dew at present at Invercargill, is transferred to Napier, Sub-Inspector McNamara, of Wellington, is promoted inspector and transferred to Invercargill. Senior-Sergeant D. J. Cnmriiings, of Masterton is promoted to sub-inspector and transferred to Wellington. Sergeant Sweeney, of Wellington, takes charge *t Masterton.
The bridging of the Little Wanganui river will he an accomplished fact very soon now. The bridge itself is almost completed and the approaches likewise nearing completion. It is expected traffic may cross some time during next week. At present all the south rivers are extremely low and there is no trouble for motorists to negotiate the fords. The site for the Waitangi bridge has been fixed, and the timber is now being delivered. The approaches for this- bridge will be considerable, and they are to be put in hand soon, fir which purpose the party at Li t fU’ Wanganui will move south in a week or tw.i.
