MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
THURSDAY. SEPTEMBER 28th
(Before W. Meldrum Esq., S-M.) A RAIS ACT.
A. F. Rhenish was charged with having a shotgun and having sold it without having notified his change of address. Convicted and ordered to pay costs 7s. licensing act. A prohibited person found drunk was convicted and fined 20s and costs 7s
CHARGES WITHDRAWN. The police charged Ellen Alary Toker (licensee of Greyhound hotel) with selling liquor after hours; John C. Staffvrd be inf; a person other than the licensee of selling liquor to a person under 21 years of age. and with selling after hours. Air Joyce appeared for the defendants and pleaded not guilty All the charges were taken together. Sergt. King appeared for the police and led the following evidence; ' David Robin Adamson deposed he was If, years old in February last. On Bid. Sept, with .Tones and Hahn went out Aralmra road. Saw a horse in the railway stop and helped to get it out. Later saw the owner Lousich, who thanked them for assisting and asked them to come into the hotel. They went to the Greyhound hotel, where Lousich asked for drinks but Stafford refused to supply tbein. No one was supplied with drink while lie was there. Remembered giving a statement in tbe police station. Did not recollect what lie fold the Sergeant there. Air Joyce objected to the witness being treated as hostile. After further denial of any recollection of having told a. different story to the police, the witness was orded to stand down.
Leonard Jones deposed he knew Adamson. Oil 3rd. Sept, went out the road towards Stafford’s hotel. Met Lousich and visited the hotel with Adamson Hahn and Lousich. AYent in by tbe back door. Lousich asked them to have a drink. Stafford came in and asked them what they were doing there. They asked for a drink and Stafford refused to give them a drink. They did not have any drink. When lie saw the Sergeant at the station he had told the Sergeant that he had two drinks. He told those lies just to give the Sergeant something to do. but be was telling the truth ill the box. FTe was 19 vears and 9 months old.
Sergt. King asked under the circumstances of the evidence of his two witnesses that the several charges he withdrawn. His Worship agreed to this request. Mr Joyce stated that Air Stafford had a full reply to the charge against him.
