-lISTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. IRISH FIGHTING. (Received this day at 8 a.in.) LONDON, September 27. Free Staters beat off a fierce irregular attack on a Nationalist pest at Glendalougb, after three hours fight. The rebels swooped down from the moiiiinins and heavy firing made the post untenable. The small garrison tuned out and fought in the street, until reinforced. Several rebels were wounded and captured with arms and ammunition.
DEBATE IN BAIL. (Received this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON, September 28. During the debate in the Dail, opposing Mr Gavan Duffey’s amendment to Article 12 of the constitution, Mr O’Higgins described it as practically an invitation to proclaim a Republic. Duffey’s proposbnl was to omit the King. The Ministry accepted the King because the people accepted the Treaty. It was impossible to draft a constitution consistent therewith, whisli omitted the King. The amendment was rejected by 43 to 16.
