[by TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION] LABOUR’S VIEWS. WELLINGTON, Sept 23. The New Zealand Labour Party cabled to the British party:—-‘What is the British Labour view on the Turkish situation*'’ ami received the following reply, dated London. 22nd. “Your telegram was .considered today by the National Joint Council representing the General Council of the Trades Union Congress, the Executive Committee of the Labour Party and Parliamentary Committee of the Labour Party, who passed the following resolution and instructed us to telegraph it to you.”-—“British Labour Party is opposed to any war in the Near East and believes 11 it only effective way of avoiding it is liv reference to the dispute to the League of Nations, in which Turkey. Russia, and Germany should be included. We are strongly opposed to Britain acting indivdually and demand a settlement by discussion and agreement. J. B. Williams (Chairman), Arthur Henderson (Secretary).”
CAR HIRE COSTS. MASTKRTOX. Sept 24. The local bodies iff Wairarapa have been culled upon to pay -Cl .UK) next year towards the salaries of health inspectors .whereas this year tiny are paying only £430. A deputation waited on the I ton Rarr on Saturday, and protested at the increase. The Minister promised to reduce their contribution to £BSO. Dr Finlay. Medical Officer of Health, who was prcsnfr, stated the main reason for the increase was in lilt' additional expense in the hire of taxis, at so much per , mild under the contract system. The inspectors did not have their own ears now.
