Canterbury Automobile Association.
WESTLAND BRANCH. A meeting of the above Association was held at the County Chambers last evening. Present—Alessrs Geo. Davidson (chair), Perhnm, Williams, Di Baird, Dr Buchanan, Dr Alandl, Ford, McMannaway, Park, Simpson, Clements, Bassett, Stuart, Jeffries and Dr Teichelinann.
After the .reading and confirmation of tlie minutes of the previous meeting the following correspondence was dealt with.
From the Greymouth Branch, suggesting a combined motor run to the Christchurch road he arranged by the respective committees at a date to he fixed by arrangement. This was left to the Committee to arrange with the Greymouth Committee.
Tt was resolved to join the Greymouth Branch in urging the completion of the road between Flowery Creek and Kumnra Junction.
Another matter brought up by the Greymouth Branch was the institution of an Oil Bond store t Greymouth for benzine and oils. It aas decided that further particulars he obtained from Greymouth liefore taking action. The question of having the Ben ley Hotel connected up by telephone was brought up by Air Clement's for the benefit of motorists, so as to he able to ascertain the state of the Wnimakaliri before starting from either end. Alter discussion it was decided to communicate with the Greymouth and parent branches to ascertain to what extent they were prepared to contribute financially to this object. The total expense was estimated at £3O. The condition of the Boss to Fergusons road was then discussed and It was decided to communicate with the Canterbury Automobile Association, the Progress League and Public Works Department on the matter. In a discussion on general matters, the new motor regulations suggested by the County Council were dealt- with. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the regulations in their present form, although it was generally agreed that some form of tax was necessary but that the suggested tax required revision. Messrs Davidson. Ford. Clements and McMannaway were elected as n deputation to interview the Council and present tlie Association’s point of view. Four new members were elected. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.
