Wall-stret was startled to-day by the announcement that Dir Allan Ryan, head of the stockbroking firm bearing his name, has filefl a personal petition in bankruptcy. From the point of the" magnitude of the linLi I ties .Mr Ryan’s failure is one of the largest known in the history of American finance. He. admits liabilties of about £6.500.000 and claims that his assets are £5,500,000.
Mr Ryan, who is the soil of Mr Thomas 'Fortune Ryan .the financier, lic.-anie prominent a year ago when he secured a “corner” in shares of the Stutz Motor Company. Among his creditors are Dir Charles M. Schwab, the steel magnate, Dir Harry Payne Whitney, and Mr Samuel Unterinyev, the lawyer. In addition Mr Rvnn owes his wife £(560,000.
